English as a Second Language (ESL)

ESL Outreach

Mission, Vision and Values

Mission - To provide meaningful opportunities for church members to put faith into practice by offering English Language Classes as a means of showing the love of Christ to the International Immigrant Community in Metro Atlanta.

Vision - To see members build relationships and help internationals integrate into the church and local community.

Values - Given the statements above, we uphold the following:

• Provide quality English instruction

• Equip members with the necessary skills (teaching & ministry)

• Help students adjust successfully

Last spring we started an ESL class with approximately 20 students on Sunday evenings. The students met for a weekly two hour class for 10 weeks. We plan to do this again this spring and fall.

We will be asking for volunteers for this outreach next spring. If you feel called to assist as an English teacher or to help out with this ministry in general, contact Pastor José at the church office 770-505-3250.

Small Groups

We believe that a small group setting is great for building Christian character and to deepen our knowledge of God. Small groups offer a forum for open discussion, fellowship, and accountability as we watch over and pray for each other in love.

We will seek to have several different small groups to include: married, singles, men’s, women’s, and youth (though we may not have these all at the same time). While the study content for each small group may vary, they will all focus on practical life application of our Sunday sermons.

Spanish Bible Study

With the emergence of Hispanics in our community and our ability to speak Spanish, we will offer a Spanish language Bible study on Sunday afternoons.

Our desire is to communicate the gospel to the Hispanic people in their native tongue so that we may see fruit among them.

Children’s Church

According to Psalm 127:3-5, children are gifts from God. Children, like all the rest of humanity, are seriously flawed and need a savior (Genesis 8:21 & Psalm 51:5). We are convinced that children (just as adults) can grow in grace and use their spiritual gifts for the glory of God (1 Peter 3:18).

As parents we often wonder, "are my children getting the message?" as they sit in church during the preaching time. Of course they hear and absorb more than we realize, but at Emmanuel we understand that our children need to hear messages that they can relate to and that they can grasp.

To address this need we have designed Emmanuel Children’s Church. Children's Church involves many of the aspects of a normal worship service. The children sing songs and have a short message time immediately following the regular adult service on Sunday morning geared specifically for children grades (K to 5 th).

Nursery

Nursery care is available for infants and toddlers up to 3 years old during the Sunday morning worship service and during Children’s Church. Children in our nursery are cared for by our volunteer nursery staff. For your children’s safety and your peace of mind, we run background checks on all of our nursery and children’s ministry volunteers.

Youth Ministry

We value our youth and treat them as important members of our church family and our mission. We desire that the youth be included in nearly all the adult activities so they can see and learn about adulthood from other adults, and we in turn can learn from them. We need their influence and want them to be a part of the family.

We encourage our youth to actively participate in our worship services, to help lead worship with their God given gifts and talents, to assist in the nursery. and help in other areas of ministry where they feel called.

However, even with all of that, we realize that the youth needs a ministry of their own. Therefore, we have designed a youth ministry to meet the needs of our teens and prepare them to explore and enjoy the Christian life.

Teens long for deep friendships. Most large-group youth meetings do not provide real opportunities for prayer, encouragement, care, and life-on-life discipleship. Beginning in November, we will provide a weekly forum where teens can enjoy special time with a few good friends and with a leader to talk about life, pray, encourage, and help each other.

They will be encouraged to participate in the community youth activities and outreach. We will seek to have service projects that will make a difference in our community and will help our teens learn that it is better to give than receive! We will host one day prayer events, weekend retreats, and other events that will provide them the opportunity to explore and develop a deeper spiritual life.

Our prayer is that our youth will discover their God-given talents and enjoy making an impact in their world!
